About the University of Bristol

The University of Bristol is an open research university founded in 1876.  The university is organized into six academic faculties composed of multiple schools and departments running over 200 undergraduate courses, largely in the Tyndalls Park area of the city. Current academics include 21 fellows of the Academy of Medical Sciences, 13 fellows of the British Academy, 13 fellows of the Royal Academy of Engineering and 44 fellows of the Royal Society. Among alumni and faculty, the university counts 9 Nobel laureates.

About the fully funded PhD Scholarships in the UK

As part of the University of Bristol’s major new investment in PhD scholarships, the faculty of life science is pleased to be able to offer fully-funded University of Bristol PhD studentships to start in September 2022. These 4-year PhD scholarships cover tuition fee and provide a stipend and research costs to support you during studies. The university have prioritized two areas for scholarships – funding for international students and co-funded projects with industry partners.  The University of Bristol is committed to equality, diversity and inclusion and we welcome and encourage applications from across the world and from minority and under-represented backgrounds. The Faculty is currently advertising 60 projects available for international students, covering our wide portfolio of research on life sciences areas of global importance, including but not limited to:

  • tackling the causes and impact of climate change
  • how the brain and mind work
  • engineering biology for new medicines
  • diagnostics and crops
  • combating infections including pandemics and antimicrobial resistance

In this cohort of the scholarship however, the Faculty of Life Sciences is delighted to be able to offer 5 fully-funded PhD studentships for international students to start in September 2022.

Benefit fully funded PhD Scholarships in the UK

The fully funded PhD scholarship will offer the following benefits:

  • A 4-year PhD studentship with a range of research training opportunities, including short courses in research, statistical, computational and generic skills
  • A tax-free stipend of £15,609 per year
  • Up to £7,500 of research costs per year, depending on topic
  • Full waiver of tuition fee

 

Eligibility fully funded PhD Scholarships in the UK

To be eligible to apply you must be an international student (i.e. not eligible for home UK tuition fee).  You will need to hold a first or upper second-class honours degree (or international equivalent) in a relevant biomedical science discipline or psychology.  And if English is not your first language, then you need to meet the English language requirements for your chosen School.

 

How to apply fully funded PhD Scholarships in the UK

Interested and qualified applicants are invited to follow the steps below to submit their application

  • The closing date for applications is 11:59 GMT on Thursday April 28th.
  • Chose the project(s) you are interested in from the list on FindaPhD.com
  • Submit your application on the PGR admissions system.
  • You need to choose the PhD programme for your chosen School in the system, so for example, for a project in the School of Biochemistry, choose Biochemistry PhD, 4 years.
  • You do not need to upload a research proposal unless asked to by your prospective supervisor.
  • Under ‘Funding’ select ‘UoB scholarship’
  • If you are selected for interview, your supervisor will contact you directly to arrange this.
  • We hope to announce the outcomes by Friday 27th May.
