1. Global Futures Scholarships at the University of Manchester

The University of Manchester is proud to offer awards worth £500,000 to international students, commencing their studies in September 2022. This scholarship is open to both undergraduate and master’s students holding an offer from The University of Manchester and evaluation will be based on academic merit and the quality of your scholarship application.

To be eligible for a Global Futures Scholarship, you must be domiciled in one of the participating countries. You must also be self-funded (not sponsored). The level of award, eligibility criteria and application deadlines differ for each region.

 Eligible Countries

Bangladesh, Botswana, Egypt, Ghana, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Malaysia, Morocco, Nepal, Nigeria, Pakistan, Singapore, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Thailand, United States, Vietnam and Zimbabwe. 

Eligibility  

To be eligible to apply, you must hold an offer of a study place at The University of Manchester for a course that will commence in September 2022. You’ll be required to submit an online application form which will be automatically emailed to all relevant offer-holders by the International Office. Further Details

2. GREAT scholarships 2022 at the University of Manchester

If you’re considering a postgraduate degree in the UK, then a GREAT scholarship can help. GREAT scholarships are jointly funded by The University of Manchester with the UK government’s GREAT Britain campaign and the British Council.  The scholarship is offering £10,000 towards tuition fees for one-year master’s programmes in specific subject areas to students from India and Nigeria, who will enrol in the 2022/23 academic year.

Five scholarships are available and applications will open to relevant offer-holders from November 2021. A scholarship application form will be emailed to all relevant offer-holders by the International Office.

Applications close on 1 June 2022.

How to apply

You must complete a GREAT scholarship application form by 1 June 2022. This will be emailed to all relevant offer-holders by the International Office.

Successful applicants will be notified by 17 June 2022.

3. Equity and Merit Scholarships for international master’s students

The Sustainable Development Goals are our world’s call to action and our Equity and Merit Scholarships aim to empower young professionals in the Global South to address these. Equity and Merit Scholarships are for academically excellent students who have the potential to make a significant contribution to sustainable development in their home countries.

The awards are intended for those who couldn’t afford to study in Manchester without a scholarship. We are committed to a policy of equal opportunity and all applications are considered on their merit. We particularly encourage women to apply.  There are 30 scholarships (20 for full-time study and 10 for online study) available each year for a wide range of courses in engineering, environment, health sciences, development, education, textiles and law. The scheme is open to applicants from Ethiopia, Malawi, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda and Zimbabwe. The scholarships cover full tuition fees, and for students who will be studying in Manchester, the award includes return international airfares, living expenses and visas.

Eligibility

Our master’s scholarships are aimed at talented applicants, especially from disadvantaged backgrounds. To apply for a scholarship, you must:

  • be a resident citizen of Ethiopia, Malawi, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda or Zimbabwe, and have not previously studied outside Africa (training of six months or less does not count);
  • have at least two years of professional experience related to your chosen field of study (this does not include unpaid internships or voluntary work);
  • a bachelor’s degree (you must have graduated before September 2020) with an overall excellent grade. The awards are for academically outstanding students and typically this means that you are in the top 10% of your class;
  • be committed to returning home and able to demonstrate the potential to make a positive impact on the future of your home country;
  • have a clear idea of how studying with Manchester will benefit both your career and the wider community.
